The David Resendez Vocational Scholarship

HMG has sponsored a scholarship for a deserving student from Stephen F. Austin High School every year since 2006. The scholarship honors David Resendez (Rez), our former Vice President, Senior Plumbing Designer, and friend, who passed away in 2003 after 18 years with HMG.

Rez was a distinguished engineering professional, and was considered one of the best plumbing designers in Texas.  He was also the Charter President of the Central Texas Chapter of the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE).  Rez had a huge heart who could bring out the best in people. He believed in helping young people whenever possible.

Three years after Rez started working for HMG, he hired George Bocanegra, a graduate of Stephen F. Austin High School. George was Rez’s apprentice and, as a result of Rez’s tutelage for 15 years, he was able to fill Rez’s shoes by becoming HMG’s Senior Plumbing Designer.

Just as Rez passed the gift of his knowledge to his successor, the scholarship provides us the opportunity to continue his legacy of encouraging learning and improving the future of promising young students.

2013 Winner
We are pleased to announce that the 2013 recipient of the David Resendez Vocational Scholarship is Ms. Estefany Zamora. We believe Estefany exemplifies the drive and ambition that Rez exhibited himself, and valued in others.

If Rez were here, he would tell Estefany to always do your best, be honest and fair, and never forget to laugh.
