Lead Mechanical Engineer / Designer

San Antonio, TX

HMG & Associates, Inc. has an immediate opening for a qualified Lead Mechanical Engineer / Designer in our San Antonio office. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, collaborative team player and self-starter who takes ownership of the projects to which he or she is assigned. The qualified candidate will be responsible for initiating and developing mechanical drawings and specifications from inception through completion for assigned projects.

Responsibilities
  • Perform mechanical design calculations (heating/cooling loads, fan static pressure calculations, pump head calculations, etc.)
  • Layout design work for HVAC duct, hydronic and piping systems utilizing AutoCAD, BIM/REVIT
  • Collaborate with other members of the MEP design team to coordinate the design effort
  • Research code issues and work with City, State and County officials to ensure designs are code compliant
  • Review shop drawings/submittals to determine compliance with design drawings and specifications and recommend any necessary changes
  • Perform site observations and provide written reports
  • Respond to RFIs in a timely basis

Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering
  • Licensed as a Professional Mechanical Engineer in the State of Texas
  • Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in municipal, educational, commercial, and institutional projects
  • Experience in HVAC load estimating, equipment selection, controls design and specification
  • Project experience from proposal and inception to design, construction, and post-construction phases
  • Specific experience in project design associated with package and split-based DX systems, large chillers and boilers, and respective subsystems. This can include control and flow diagrams (air and water)
  • Generate cost estimates of mechanical systems
  • Marketing experience is a plus; should have experience fostering and building client relations and business development opportunities
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, team-driven environment; ready to pitch in to help meet a deadline
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Word-processor, Excel, AutoCAD, and BIM/REVIT proficient
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
